At 4:15pm on Monday, May 13, 2002, only 3 days after being diagnosed with acute leukemia, Bill was called to take his seat in God's eternal resting place. Born May 30, 1917, to Anthony and Elizabeth (Zielinski) Sparagowski, Bill was raised on a farm in the Crissey Road area with his eight brothers and sisters and attended Huckleberry School. He worked at Doehler-Jarvis for over 33 years and was head of supervision there when he retired in 1975. Frequently called "Whitey" by many of his friends because of his blond hair and light complexion, Bill was well known as the generous owner of the original Gino's Pizza which has become one of Toledo's most popular pizza restaurants. It was common for him to give away food to friends, relatives and those in need. He along with his wife, Helen, his brothers, Eddie and Leo, and their wives, Gloria and Frances, started the business in 1955. At that time, Gino's was one of only three pizza restaurants in the entire city. Bill was a long time parishioner and active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was an usher and a memberof the St. Anthony Society. He was an avid golfer and cherished his 20 year role as the playing partner of Monsignor Legowski in the St. Anthony golf league. Bill will be reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 60 years, Helen who died October 28, 2000. He is survived by his son, Jack, who is grateful for having such a wonderful and caring father; daughter-in-law, Gayle; sister, Dorothy Arendt; brother, Leo (Frances) Sparks;grandchildren, Jennifer, John, Crystal, Brian, and Angela; niece and nephew, Florence and joe Markowiak; cousin and good friend, Bernie Grzegorzewski; good buddy, Ray Skowronek and many other wonderful friends and acquaintances. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Ed, Steve and Ray Sparagowski and Mike Rucki; sisters, Celia Okonski, Helen Weilant and Frances Zdawczyk. Family and friends may visit Wednesday from 4-8pm and Thursday from 2-8pm in the Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 E. Alexis Road where on Thursday a Rosary will be led at 7pm. Funeral Services will begin Friday at 9:30am in the mortuary and continue with the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony Church at 10am. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
