Nancy, 85, of Springfield, MI went home to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 9, 2021 which happened to be Mother's Day, at her residence in Battle Creek, MI. It was only fitting as she was known as Mom to many. Nancy was born to Garnet and Laura (Stout) Burt in Battle Creek MI. Her parents divorced and her mother married George A Hornback. He adopted Nancy.

Nancy met her best friend, Sunny McJunkin Althouse Hopson when they were 14 years old, they remained Best Friends until Sunny's passing six years ago. Nancy and Sunny buddied up with six others and they double dated. Included were Leora Strowbridge, Les Spriggle, Jackie Jenkin, Buddy Spriggle, Jim Hopson and the Love of her Life, who she would eventually marry ten years later, James Moorehead Sr. All remained friends until their passing with the last remaining, James Hopson of Grovetown, Georgia.

Nancy quit school at the age of 16 to work in the family grocery store called Hornback's Market at 127 Graves Avenue, the people in the neighborhood were some of her fondest memories. She also worked at Cowles Engineering for three years then Leo's Community Grocery on Michigan Avenue for three years as a cashier.

Nancy was a homemaker, wife, and mother (which was her favorite job) until 1975 when she went to work for Avis Car Rental at Kellogg Airport. She was known at the "Avis Lady". While there she was able to work along side her father, Garnet Burt who owned Kellogg Airport Limousine Service. This allowed them to spend many hours together reconnecting. Nancy took care of the pilots and airport staff by bringing in meals when the Kitty Hawk Restaurant was closed. Nancy also had the opportunity to meet several interesting people and was also privileged by being able to help the pilots of Air Force One when they landed at the airport. They needed a car to go to a nearby restaurant as the Kitty Hawk was busy due to Fish Fry Night, so she gave, not rented them her own car. In return they took her on a tour of the inside of Air Force One. This was one of the highlights of her life and she had never forgotten it.

In 1980, Nancy started working with her mother at Laura's Book Nook and helped her at Reits Flea Market on the weekends in Paw Paw. She also helped her daughter, Susan at her day care called Suzie's Munchkinland where she was known as Grandma. Nancy was a member of Faith Baptist Church, (formerly known as the First Baptist Church of Springfield) since 1961. She had a wonderful sense of humor and Nancy was a loving, giving Christian lady.

Nancy married Robert H. Lyke in 1955, they had two daughters, Susan and Judi. That marriage ended in divorce. In 1961 she married her soul mate, James Moorehead Sr., they had two sons, James Jr. and Thomas, and were married 54 years when he passed away.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Susan Miller of Springfield, Judi Chaddock of Hastings, Kathy (Roy) Denton of Denton, TX, Sherri Moorehead of Springfield; brothers, William (Marie) Edwards of Marshall, Scott (Kathy) Perry of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Rickie Hinds Jr (Jen Brooks) of Battle Creek, Nickolas Hinds of Battle Creek, Kenny Moorehead of Springfield, Tommy Moorehead of Springfield, Robert (Nicole) Lyke of Hastings, Shayne Lyke of Hastings, Stephanie (Mike) Keagle of Battle Creek, Katherine Moorehead of Battle Creek, RC (Tish) Denton of Panama City, FL, Crystal Swift (Robert Fletcher) of Battle Creek; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and very special friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Laura Hornback, Garnet and Wilda Burt; husband, James Moorehead Sr. in 2016; sons, Thomas Moorehead in 1989 and James Jr. in 2019; grandson, Phillip Moorehead in 2008.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021 in the afternoon at Faith Baptist Church, Battle Creek, MI. with Pastor Roy Henry officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Ceresco Cemetery in Emmett Township.
