Jon Thomas Kettner was born in Morgan, Redwood, MN on January 1, 1936, to Emil H. and Verna (Hopp) Kettner. Jon died on April 30, 2021, at the age of 85. Jon was the first baby born in Redwood County in 1936 and received many prizes for his accomplishment. Jon moved to Spokane in 1946 with his parents and sisters Colleen and Patricia. He attended West Valley High School in Millwood, graduating in 1953.

On December 30, 1956, he married Ann Elizabeth (Wisti) (Sollid). They were married for 64 years. He went on to college later in life and graduated in 1987 from Eastern Washington University. Jon worked for Spokane School District as a carpenter for 34 years retiring in 1994. He was a long-time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley and served as treasurer and accountant for a number of years.

In 2013 he became the Historian for the church. He transferred all the paper church records from 1924 to the present to the computer. He was a member of the Inland Empire S Gauge train club from 1979 to 2013 and served as chairman and treasurer at the same time, for almost 10 years. He enjoyed watching Gonzaga basketball, genealogy, camping, photography, especially later in life, taking sunset and lighthouse pictures and driving his 1966 Thunderbird. He also built numerous articles of furniture for each of his children, grandchildren, and wife after his retirement. He also wrote this obituary so it would be correct!

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, and children Mark (Cheryl) Kettner of Spokane, Rachael (Brad) Thompson of Mica, WA, and Paul (RaChelle) Kettner of Fairfield, WA. Also, surviving are eleven grandchildren: Katharine and Nathaniel Kettner, Lauren and Marisa Kettner, Braden, Landon and Emilia Thompson, Levi, Logan, Alexandra and Layton Kettner.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Verna Kettner, and his stepfather Lester Shoffner, son Michael Kettner, sister Colleen Webber and sister-in-law Marilyn Roberge and his wife's parents Lars and Ann Sollid.

Private services held at Rosewood Cemetery, Fairfield, WA. Online condolences may be expressed at ThornhillValley.com. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Redeemer Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School. Jon served as photographer for VBS for over six years.
