Fayette County - STEWART G. BAKER, 91, resident of the Macon Community, retired mechanic and U. S. Army veteran, died November 4, 2007. Services at 1 p.m. Friday at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in Memphis Memory Gardens. Survivors: wife, Gladys; six children; and four siblings. STEWART GWINN BAKER, a resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County and a United States Army Veteran died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at his residence. He was 91 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Funeral services for Mr. Baker were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, November 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Hwy. 64 near Oakland with Rev. Rickey Burns, Pastor of the Williston Baptist Church officiating. Interment, with Military Honors followed in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh-LaGrange Rd. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home—West Chapel.

A native of Drummonds, TN, Mr. Baker was born January 23, 1916. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil G. Baker and Martha Wiseman Baker. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Pounders; his daughter, Sandra Baker Powell of Brunswick, GA; his son, Eric A. Baker of Lexington, TN; step-daughters Wanda Pounders of Memphis and Donna McKay of Victoria, TX; step-sons Sherman Pounders of Olive Branch, MS and Keith Pounders of Somerville; three sisters, Jean Markham and Alleen Redditt of Cordova and Ona Emery of Memphis; his brother Lewis Baker of Murfreesboro; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Eric Baker, Kenny Baker, Jr., Robert Powell, Blake Powell, Sherman Pounders, Keith Pounders and Tom Powell.

The family request that donations be directed to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
