Eliza Emily Martin was born June 10, 1846 in Reedsburg, Sauk Co, Wisconsin. The family moved to Hillsdale Co., Michigan. She married Cassius Marcellus Clay Andrus(b. December 25, 1844, d. November 13, 1935) on December 18, 1867. Their four children were born in Michigan, three daughters, Edith May (b:September 4, 1869), Dora Belle (b:26 February 1872), and Leah Maude (b:20 May 1885), and a son who died in infancy. In 1885, the family removed to the city of Hillsdale in order that two of their daughters (Edith & Dora) might attend Hillsdale College.

After their two daughters graduated from the College in 1892, the family moved to Wichita, Sedgewick Co., Kansas and lived there for five years before moving to Winfield, Kansas in 1897. They lived there continuously until 1929. Mrs. Andrus died in 1928 in Winfield as the result of a stroke and was buried in Union Cemetery, Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas. Eliza and CMC were members in good standing of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and Mr. Andrus was superintendent of the Sunday School for some years.
