Amanda was born in Anderson County, SC to George and Nancy Massey Braswell. She married her cousin William Sanders Hunt in South Carolina. He was the son of William Jeremiah and Zaney Massey Hunt. Amanda and William had four sons: John Thompson, Sion Pinkney, William McGee and James Sanders. Amanda and William moved to Choctaw County, MS in the 1840's with their four small sons. William's brother Wilson Hunt also moved to Choctaw County and ran a grocery store in the small community of Huntsville outside of Stewart, MS. That community was named for Wilson Hunt. William died only a few years after arriving in Choctaw County. Amanda then married Elias Dudley Brooks about 1849. She and Elias had five children: Susan Amanda Elizabeth Brooks Raybun, George Witt Brooks, Frances Ardella Brooks Smith,and Elias Monroe Brooks. Amanda's brother William Anderson Braswell married his cousin Mary Ann "Polly" Hunt and they also moved to Choctaw County. Many Braswell and Brooks descendents still live in the area. Not many Hunt descendents are known, but Jeff Hunt and Lura Hunt Grice were great-grandchildren of William and Amanda Braswell Hunt.
