Obituary
Marilyn Julia Eve Hecker, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on May 15, 2021, in Lilac Homes Assisted Living, Moorhead, MN.

Marilyn was born on July 11, 1939, in Belfield, ND, to Harry and June (Haut) Hegel. She attended rural country school through seventh grade and moved to Belfield, where she attended and graduated from high school, as an honor student, in 1957.

She worked at the Rough Rider Hotel in Medora, ND., as a waitress before moving to Dickinson, ND., working for the Singer Sewing Center and Smart Office Supply, before attending Dickinson State University, for six months.

Marilyn became acquainted with her spouse, Patrick Hecker, when he returned from the Navy. They were united in marriage, on August 22, 1959, and they lived in Wahpeton for several years, while Patrick was attending the State College of Science. They later moved to Moorhead, in 1962.

Marilyn was employed in a Civil Service position, with the Farm Service Agency (formerly Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service), in Fargo, from 1965 to 1985. She then worked in the Administrative Division, working her way up to Assistant Administrative Officer. Her position required extensive travel throughout North Dakota and the United States, including Washington D.C., in an administrative capacity. This included training County Executive Directors and administrative division employees on employee benefits, workload reporting for budget purposes, employee promotions, benefits, retirement, and safety issues. Marilyn retired, in 1995, with 30 years of service.

Marilyn was a very organized person in her work and personal life. She enjoyed cross stitching, puzzles, and world fill-ins, and read numerous books. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters, and was active with her husband in Boy Scouts. She was very active in her children's lives and supported them, through their many ventures. She was a faith filled woman and used that faith to tackle any issue that came her way, along with her strong will and determination.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Patrick Hecker; children, Dough Hecker, Michael (Lorae) Hecker, Patrick (Becky) Hecker, and Bradley (Tammy) Hecker; grandchildren, Devin (Erika) Hecker, Brandon, Alex, Anna, Brady, and Gracey Hecker, and Joshua (Ashlie) Blair; her beloved dog, Ginger; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and June; and brothers, Harry Hegel Jr. and Charles Hegel.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the Wake service at 7:00 P.M., on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, at 11:00 A.M., on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, following the service.
