Lela was the beloved daughter of Robert Seldon Baird and Mary Marilla (Jones) Baird. Her paternal grandparents were: Miles Baird and Elizabeth (Harris) Baird. Her maternal grandparents were Allen Jones and Mary Ann (Jernigan) Jones.

Lela was the sister of: Virgie (born 1885), Texie Anna (born 1887), Virgil (born 1889), Davie Crockett (born 1890), Charles Wesley (born 1892), Vernon King (born 1895), and Addie Seldon (born 1897)

Lela was born in Texas, but after her father died, her mother moved the family back home to Tennessee. That is where Lela met Walter Raleigh Young and they were married in about 1900.

Lela and Walter had four children: Walter Fred, Ralph, Texie Beatrice, and Gaybell.

Lela died of tuberculosis in 1916. The tombstone only shows her name, but her husband Walter and little daughter Gaybell (who died in 1921 at 10 years of age), are buried on either side of Lela without markers of their own.
