Struemph, Emil Henry


Emil Henry Struemph was born January 6, 1927 in Freeburg, Missouri to Henry Jay and Gertrude Ann (Richter) Struemph, one of 10 children. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1943 to 1945 and answered the call to service again, this time in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952 and until 1956 in the Reserve. Emil married Rhoda Hiley Ross on August 19, 1950 and they moved to California and made their home in Wasco. After his service, Emil started his long career with S.A. Camp Pump Company, retiring after an injury in 1978 as a driller and pump installer. Emil was a member of St. John's Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion, Freeburg Post 0317 until his passing. Emil enjoyed sitting in the front yard and watching the world go by and tending to his garden, especially the tomatoes. His favorite team was the Anaheim Angels and he watched them avidly during the baseball season. Emil also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Emil is survived by his daughters, Betty and husband, Richard Brown of McAlister, Oklahoma, and Mary and husband, Ed Crowe of Bakersfield; and another daughter, Sandy Griffin of Missouri; brother, Jim Struemph of Nevada; sisters, Catherine Wegman of Wasco, Cecilia Schmidz, Teresa Buschman and Elizabeth Stratman, all of Freeburg, Missouri; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren on the way. His was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Hiley Struemph on May 3, 2004, 1 granddaughter, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and his parents. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said, Tuesday, November 6, at 10 a.m., at St. John's Church for Emil H. Struemph, age 80, of Wasco, who passed away November 1, 2007, in Delano. Rosary will be recited Monday, November 5, at 6 p.m., at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco. Fr. John will officiate the services and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Monday, November 5, from 2-8 p.m., at Peters Funeral Home Wasco.
