"Schenectady -- Lucy Battaglia Abbatiello of Schenectady, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Ellis Hospital. A lifelong city resident, Lucy was the daughter of the late Antonio and Ascenza Battaglia. She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and the Albany Training School for Nurses. For a short time Lucy worked at Ellis Hospital and later worked for ten years in the office of Dr. Philip Parillo. For many years she had worked as a schoolcommunity coordinator for Schenectady Schools and was a facilitator for the NYS United Teachers and led many Communication Skills Workshops throughout New York State. Lucy also participated in and led many workshops for Schenectady Schools and for many County agencies. She was a member of the Schenectady County Human Rights Commission, the Schenectady County Affirmative Action Committee, the G.E. Engineers Wives Club, she served on the boards of the YMCA and the Girls Club in Schenectady and was named a Woman of the Year in Schenectady. Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Albert Abbatiello , who died on April 23, 1981; two brothers, John Battaglia and Mario Battaglia; and a sister, Matilda Battaglia Neal. She is survived by her loved sons, Albert V. Abbatiello and Robert J. Abbatiello ; her dear daughterinlaw, Barbara Abbatiello ; two granddaughters, Darcie Abbatiello and Kristie Abbatiello ; her sister, Dorothea Ponticello and her husband, John of Myrtle Beach, SC; three nieces, Joyce Novak of Phoenix, AZ, Janice Stein of Dewey, AZ, and Marylou Burke of Rotterdam; and her nephew, Joseph Lezzi of Schenectady. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning 8:15 from the DeMarcoStone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Calling hours will be Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery ..."
