JACKSON, MI — Clifford Henry Smith, age 62, of Clayton, Michigan, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, Michigan. Born in Fall River, MA to Harvey H. and Grace D. (Sanford) Smith, he is survived by his wife, Sharon (Jocque) Smith and his daughter Emily Smith, both of Clayton, Michigan. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his mother Grace D. (Sanford) Smith of Westport, MA, a brother, William D. Smith and his wife Ida Smith of New Bedford, MA and a sister, Barbara (Smith) Tripp and her husband Michael Tripp of Westport, MA. He was preceded in death by his father.
A graduate of Westport High School, he attended the Southeastern Massachusetts Technical Institute before serving in the United States Army in Vietnam and Korea. Among his many memberships, he was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Adrian Elks Lodge #429, and also served as Commander of the Adrian American Legion. He was the former owner of Smith & Associates Insurance in Adrian, MI prior to his retirement in 2007. He was also an avid beekeeper.
Visitation was held at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, MI on July 3, 2008. A memorial service followed with Full Military Rites conducted by the Hudson Hannon-Colvin American Legion Post #180.
