BOGALUSA - Betty Ruth Duncan Pace, 79, a longtime resident of the Pine community, died Wednesday, Oct. 4 in St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington. Born June 26, 1927 in Bogalusa, she was the daughter of the late Newton and Leoda Crain Duncan , a graduate of Pine High School, a member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church and of Pine Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron twice and also as OES District Deputy Grand Matron.

The widow of Winfred Dutch Pace, her husband of 61 years, she spent most of her time with family and friends and daily called and checked on the elderly, sick and shut-ins of the community.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan and J.B. Kennedy of State Line and Elfie Warner of Bogalusa; and one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Dakota Pace of Pine; seven grandchildren, Juanette Kennedy, Jackie (Donald) Williams, Justin (Glendette) Kennedy, Kimberly Parker, Jason Warner, Mickey Dutch (Mandy) Pace, Marci Pace, Alex and Charles Toney; great-grandchildren Megan and Leslie Thomas, Andrew and Ashley Williams, Cleveland Dutch Pace, Konnor Kennedy, Koby and Karli.Sumrall; one sister, Pauline Crain Kennedy of the Crain's Creek community; one brother, Huey P. (Bev) Duncan of Amite, and a sister-in-law, Hilda Duncan of Crain's Creek.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death two brothers, Jewel and Horace Duncan; two sisters, Christine Stafford and Waver James; an infant daughter, Judy Carrol Pace; a son-in-law, James A. Warner; and an infant grandson, Jeffery Kennedy.

Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. Visitation continued at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 in Pine Missionary Baptist Church, where the funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Eld. Brent King and Eld. James Broome officiated, with interment following in the W.W. Breland Cemetery at Pine.
