Eileen was called home to be with the Lord January 5, 2018. She was born October 30, 1934, in Blackwell, Wis., to Frank and Evelyn (Glinski) Johnson.
She married Delroy Collins in June of 1952 in Crystal Falls, Mich. Several years later they moved to Milwaukee where they raised their family. While there, Eileen was employed for years as a cook at Park Manor Nursing Home, a job she loved.
In 1984, the couple moved back to Blackwell where Eileen worked for several years as a cook at Nu Roc Nursing Home. She loved the work, the people, and the place. It's somewhat fitting that this is where she left the confines of this world.
After Eileen and Delroy retired, they enjoyed long walks down Bear Lake Road, fishing at Gogebic Lake, and making homemade sausage. Weekend family picnics at the park, cooking, and welcoming all were traditions in the Collins family.
Eileen was an excellent cook and in 2001 began an eight-year stint as Chef Eileen at the Double Buck Café in Laona where she was especially known for her delicious homemade soups, salads and desserts, and where she worked alongside four generations. Nothing pleased her more than preparing good food for others and diners traveled miles to enjoy her fare.
She also loved playing cards, putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing games on her tablet, watching movies on the Hallmark Channel, as well as many cooking shows on the Food Network.
Eileen was a strong woman who faced many challenges in life, but she had a steadfast faith in God that carried her through. Her family was a constant source of pride, as evidenced by the 116+ photos displayed in her living room. One of Eileen's favorite pastimes was visiting family in various cities and supporting them in activities in which they excelled and enjoyed.
She was a loving, supportive daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who brought her own special brand of joy to the world. She will be greatly missed, but knowing that she is at peace with the Lord gives joy to those who love her. In her final days, Eileen was surrounded by the love of them all.
Eileen is survived by her children: James (Sue) Collins, Phoenix; Richard (Laurie) Collins, Merrill; Michael (Winda) Collins, Laona; Deborah (Victor) Gifford, Blackwell; and Lisa (Charles) Collins; Fox Point. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delroy; sisters: Geraldine Granath, Sharon Stear, and Rita Soderbeck; granddaughter, Jennifer Collins; and great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Collins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wabeno: Visitation at noon, service at 1 p.m., luncheon immediately following.
