LaVerne Theresa Pfeiffer, 90, Moorhead, MN passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Eventide in Moorhead. She was born on October 25, 1927 in Devils Lake, ND to Edward and Sophia (Lehnen) Haus. She grew up in Egeland, ND where she graduated from Egeland High School.

In July of 1946, LaVerne was united in marriage to Wallace Pfeiffer in Egeland. They lived in Alsen, ND and their daughter, Margo, was born in June of 1947 and their son, Steven, was born in July of 1951.

They then moved to Oslo where Wally was the Soo Line Depot Agent. LaVerne worked as a waitress at the local café and later was employed as the secretary at the Farmers Elevator for several years. LaVerne and Wally were very active at the Zion Lutheran Church. She participated in a two-year long Bethel Bible Study instructor course. The course culminated in a trip to Israel with her classmates that was one of the highlights of her life. She was also member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In 1971, they moved to Tulaby Lake near Wauban, MN. LaVerne then started school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Upon receiving her certification, she worked for St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN for 12 years.

While in Wauban, MN LaVerne was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught a two-year bible study course. She was also involved in the American Legion Auxiliary.
For the last several years, she resided at Eventide in Moorhead.

LaVerne was a lifelong student, who taught herself with medical journals, Time and National Geographic magazines, and countless nonfiction books.

She was a fabulous cook who made everything from scratch. LaVerne and Wally had a large garden that provided many of her ingredients. She was especially famous for her pies.

LaVerne is survived by her children, Margo (Dave) Buen, Fargo; and Steven (Lauri Hentges Souers) Pfeiffer, Ramsey, MN; brother, Raymond (Lyseng) Haus, Henderson, NV; sister-in-law, Arlys Haus; grandchildren, Christine Gustafson, Alicia (Tony) Gustafson Richards, Garrett (Mandy) Pfeiffer, Stephanie (Clay) Dehaan, and Kelli (Josh) McDonald; 10 great-grandchildren; and special nephew, Michael (Lori) Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally; siblings, Herbert Haus and Rita Wood.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior.
