Nova was the youngest of nine children born to Ninian Lewis Bay and his wife, Mollie Elizabeth Jones. She married first, Oct 1938, Russell Hiram Petitt as his second wife. Russell died in 1972, and Nova married second, 4 Apr 1975, Elza P. "Mack" McCoy, who died in 1996. Nova had no children.
