She met her future husband, Bud, on a blind date on July 4, 1947. During that date, Bud told Lucille he would marry her, and he did on September 4, 1948 at St. Adalbert's Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.
They had eight children: John, Paul, Jim, Judi, Beth and Becky (twins), Sue and Cindy.
Sadly Bud died from cancer on January 29, 1970. Lucille remained devoted to Bud and never wanted to remarry. She kept his bathrobe and her one wish was to be buried with it. Dad's robe was folded and laid on her chest over her heart. They are now beside each other at Fort Snelling after 51 years apart.
