Jean Marion Donatello peacefully passed away at home, at age 98, on May 17, 2021. Jean was born in 1923, at the old Railroad Hospital in Anchorage. She was the youngest of three children born to Elisabeth and Andrew John Landstrom. Her parents immigrated from Sweden and met in Nome where her father had a mine. The Landstrom family moved to Anchorage in 1915, when Andrew went to work for the Alaska Railroad.

Jean was married to her husband Dominic Donatello for 54 years. Jean met her husband on one of the Alaska Steamships in 1944, on her way back to the University of Washington. Dominic was stationed in the Aleutians during the war and was on his way back to Boston. They knew each other for a week when Don said they should get married. Jean told him she needed to finish her degree at the University of Washington before they should get married. They wrote wonderful letters to each other for two and a half years before Dominic came to Anchorage for their wedding.

Jean was a wonderful mother to her five children who grew up in the neighborhood of G Street and 11th Avenue. Jean loved that there were lots of kids in that neighborhood and that it was a fun place for her children to grow up. Jean enjoyed being involved in her community and she was everyone's favorite friend and neighbor. She enjoyed volunteering at her children's schools, she was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter C and Mother's Club.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dominic; son, George; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Asa Martin; and brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Mary Jane Landstrom.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Sherwood (Ken); daughter, Mary Hines (Warren); son, Ben Donatello; daughter, Margaret Donatello; grandchildren, Emily Satake (Taro) and their children Lucy and Sammy, grandson Andrew Sherwood (Lisa) and their daughter Nola, Marian Hines and her son Antonio and Caroline Melgoza (Martine) and their children Julian, Isandro and Noemi. Jean was a kind and loving person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to especially thank the wonderful caregivers who were so kind to our mother: Dorota Bednarska, Karol Kvale, Theresa Slats and Nya Khor. Thank you to Providence Hospice for providing comfort care.

Due to COVID-19 precautions there will be a family graveside service at the Anchorage Cemetery.
