Enlisted August 9th, 1861 at Camp Lee in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Killed in action at Shiloh on April 6th, 1862 and likely buried nearby.
In Broadfoot's 'Confederate Military History Vol. XIV' he states:
'Colonel Dunlop reported the gallant conduct of Lieut. M. A. Duckworth, killed, Capt. W. J. Wallace, wounded, and Sergeant Ford, who carried the colors after the color sergeant fell. The Ninth lost 17 killed and 115 wounded.'
