Dorothy R. Hart, 81, a resident of Hoquiam for the past 44 years, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007. She had been at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for several days, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1925, in Chehalis, to John and Nancy (Riffe) Bogar. Dorothy was raised and attended school in the Elma area and graduated from Elma High School in 1944. As a youth, she enjoyed participating in sports, especially baseball.

For several years, she was a patient at Oakhurst T.B. Hospital. While there, she met Harley Donald Hart and they were married in Reno, Nev., on July 15, 1952. Following their wedding, the couple made their home in Hoquiam where they raised seven children. Harley preceded her in death on March 11, 1992.

In the early 1970s, Dorothy was a cook at the Grays Harbor Convalescent Center in Aberdeen. From 1974 to 1987, she worked at the Grays Harbor Veneer Plant in Hoquiam as a dryer off-bearer. Dorothy was a member of the International Woodworkers of America, Local 3-2 in Aberdeen.

Dorothy was a woman of wisdom, love, honesty, and integrity. She was a role model to all around her, in displaying the importance of family and being together. Although living primarily in Hoquiam, Dorothy traveled much of the year to spend extended periods of time with each of her children and their families. For this reason, she was more than just a mother and grandmother. She was a friend, a roommate, a confidante, an assistant chef, a sister in Christ and above all, the respected matriarch of each household.

There will be a Dorothy-sized hole in the lives of all she left behind, but there remains no doubt in the minds of any who love her that she has gone to be in the arms of Jesus. The family will continue to love one another in the way they were shown by Dorothy Hart.

Dorothy's life was dedicated to her children and the Lord. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their homes and this allowed her to worship at Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam, Harbor Calvary Chapel in Aberdeen, Puyallup Four Square Church, and the Lakeview Baptist Church in Belton, Texas.

Dorothy loved a good time and shared her joy for life with everyone around her. She has always been a mother who has involved herself in the lives of her children. One of her favorite pastimes was taking her children camping and fishing in the local areas. Dorothy was very lucky and was often times the only one to even catch a fish. Her family will never forget her time spent at Lake Cushman and her characteristic, comical way she would drive the boat with her feet. When she wasn't out for a ride in the country with her kids to see the wildlife, she liked to stop wherever possible to watch a football or baseball game with her children. She was a very dedicated grandmother who never missed any school or sporting event.

Dorothy could often be found reading her Bible or a good book, crocheting or embroidering. Her pillow cases, afghans, blankets, and dish cloths are labors of love that adorn the homes of all her loved ones. She would brighten up a day with her huge smile, silly jokes, and her offering of her special fried rice. Televised poker kept her entertained for hours and she would apply this knowledge to the friendly, family poker games. And, she often won!

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Shari Voight and Steve of Gig Harbor, Linda Burgess and Rick of Hoquiam, as well as, Debbie Lytle and Larry, Jr. of Hoquiam; three sons, Gary Hart and Minnie of Pendleton, Texas, Jerry Hart and Debbie of Federal Way, and Donald Hart and Debbi of Puyallup; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A son, Richard Hart of Aberdeen preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in the Immanuel Baptist Church, 408 "J" Street in Hoquiam.

Dorothy's favorite charity was Christian Cable Ministries, P.O. Box 690, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

Concluding services with vault interment will follow in the Hoquiam Sunset Memorial Park.
