Mount Holly – Grace Brown Benfield Cloninger, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late John Marsh Benfield, Sr. and Zipporah Alexandria Holdsclaw Benfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Corbett Cloninger, Jr. Grace was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly where she was a choir member for 80 years, was a member of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was the 1989 Mount Holly Woman of the Year and was Past Matron of the Mount Holly Eastern Star.
She is survived by three children, Mopsy Cloninger, Chuck Cloninger and wife Patty, and Missy Cloninger, all of Mount Holly, a sister, Wrene Benfield of Mount Holly, grandchildren Sherri Lewis and husband Jeremy, Patrick Gilreath, and two great grandchildren, Zac and Ellie Jo Lewis.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cloninger will be held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends and family after the conclusion of the service at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to MMDF, First United Methodist Church, 140 North. Main Street, Mount Holly, NC 28120.
