A beautiful soul ascended to Heaven early in the morning on January 10, 2015. Linda Lou passed away unexpectedly at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center due to complications from lung disease.

Linda Lou (Asher) Friend, was born July 22, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Glen "Pete" and Verna (Havens) Asher. She graduated from Bath High School in 1965 where she was selected as a DAR award recipient. Linda received a full academic scholarship to study at Michigan State University.

On September 24th, 1966, Linda married Roger Clay Friend in Bath Michigan. Two months later Roger was drafted into the U.S. Army and the couple was stationed in Germany. While living overseas they toured throughout Europe in their Volkswagen Beetle. In 1969 they arrived back in the States and began living in Bath, MI.

Linda worked for a short time at the Lansing Credit Bureau before becoming a mother. In 1977 she and her family moved to Sanford, MI to their home on the lake where she remained until her death.

Linda began working for the State of Michigan Department of Labor Unemployment Division. She retired after 32 years of faithful service as a U.C. Manager.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Friend, her father Glen and mother Verna Asher, her brother Peter Asher, grandchildren Sophie, Evan, and Brayden Marshall, father in-law Cleo Friend Sr. and mother in-law Florence Friend, brother in-law Cleo Friend Jr. and sister in-law MaryAnn Friend.

Linda is survived by her daughters Leslie (Mark) Schultz of Midland, MI, and Melanie (Chris) Marshall of Franklin, TN, formally of Midland, MI. Grandchildren Dayton and Myah Schultz and Annabelle and Chloe Marshall. The love in her life Mike Weaver and family. Her sister Kate (Tracy) Anderson, brother Michael (Chris) Asher, sister-in-law Judy (Dave) Driver, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and a very special extended family.

Linda was a ray of sunshine, warming the hearts of everyone that she knew. She was a beautiful person inside and out; a woman of true class, poise, beauty, had a heart as pure as gold and a smile to match.

You may have run into her at Marshall's, TJ Maxx, or the local garage sale circuit; always searching for her next treasure. But her greatest treasures of all were her grandchildren. They will miss their sleepovers, sing-a-longs, pontoon rides, and fishing at the lake with Grandma.

Rest in peace, Mom, you will be the most stylish angel in Heaven.

Funeral services for Linda will take place at 11: 00 A.M. Wednesday January 14, 2015 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Chaplain Roger Stauffer officiating. Linda's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home 1200 W. Wheeler St. on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Linda's memory.
