Nancy was born May 14, 1938 in Ft. Worth, TX to Harry Bernstein, Jr. and Mary Lee DeVault Bernstein. Her love of the outdoors began as a teenager, when she was involved with the Girl Scout Mariners and became a camp counselor working with the younger kids. With the help and encouragement of her grandfather, Harry Bernstein Sr., she attended business school in Fort Worth. After graduating, she went to California to visit her father, whom she had not seen in several years. She liked California so much she stayed and worked for New York Life. While in California, Nancy met her future husband Jack Brantly on a blind date. Jack was stationed at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach with the United States Marine Corps. They married on July 2, 1960. In 1961 Jack was discharged from the USMC and they moved to Monroe, LA.Nancy worked for Troy & Nichols and later for State Farm. In the mid 1970's, Nancy went to work at Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM), eventually becaming the secretary to the Dean of Pure and Applied Sciences. She considered this to be her career and retired from NLU. She loved being outdoors and loved working in her flower beds. Even in her later years she enjoyed working in the yard. Nancy also loved sewing and crafts. However, her greatest joy in life was being a wife and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all.
