Mrs. Minerva Cochran, daughter of Andrew J. and Helen Robinson Cochran was born near Iola, Illinois, September 9, 1861, the seventh child of a family of eleven. She spent her entire long and useful life in and near Iola. She passed away at the Olney Hospital at 3:30 A.M. July 4, 1938, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 25 days.

She was united in marriage with Henry Cruse April 19, 1891, who after thirty five years of happy companionship preceded her in death August 16, 1926. Shortly after that her elder brother Rufus M. Cochran came to live with her. She cared for him with loving hands until death October 4, 1935.

Aunt Nerva, as she was known by her host of loving relatives and friends, is survived by one sister, Amelia A. Nixon of Manhattan, Kansas and two brothers Lewis Cochran of Bartley, Nebraska and Eddie Cochran of St Elmo, Illinois, and by her step-children to whom she had endeared herself by her heartfelt loving service and kindness. They are Mrs. Dora Smith, Farina, Illinois, Ray Cruse and Mrs. Cena Jones both of Iola and a great host of relatives which include Mrs. Neva Williams and Mrs. Bertha Landreth who have spent a great deal of the time for the past few years in her home and who cared for her during her illness and death.

Aunt Nerva was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Iola since early life and was active in the church affairs of the entire community since that time. She also took an active interest in all other social and community functions, on all occasions ready to give her loyal support with her time and means.

She enjoyed a great deal her associations with her club and remained until the last month of her life a useful member of her church, community and club. She will be missed by her family and friends but by her life we know that the home eternal is hers as the gift of God for the fruits of her life and labors.
