Mr. Ness was a graduate of the Illinois Institute of technology. He was former superintendent of the Research Laboratory of Linde Air Products Division of the Union Carbide Company. Mr. Ness became widely known in his field for many contributions to design for safety, efficiency and economy in the generation, pipeline distribution and packaging of acetylene.
In 1951 he was awarded the James Turner Morehead Medal of the International Acetylene Association in recognition of his outstanding work.
