Jane Elizabeth Curtis Leibold, was born in Dubuque, Iowa to a family of nine. She married Joseph Patrick Leibold in 1954. They had three sons and settled in Morton Illinois. Jane and Joe enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. Jane was in good health for many years even through memory problems and Alzheimer's.
Jane is survived by three sons; Joe of Morton who cared for her over many years, John and wife Jean of Pleasant View, Utah, and Jeff of Pleasant View, Utah; granddaughters Megan, Anne, Rachel and Katherine, grandson Alexander, four great grandkids and by her sister Jean Jaeggi of East Dubuque.
Raised in Dubuque, Jane had five sisters and one brother who remained close throughout their lives. Going back to the mid-1920s, the Curtis family had a cottage outside of town near extended family and friends. For Jane and her sons, the trips to Frentress Lake were cherished and Jane's surviving sister still lives there. Jane's father Roy was a veteran of WWI and passed when she was 14. For Janes mother Millie, the circumstances must have been challenging; yet the seven Curtis kids never had a negative thing to say and Millie ensured a wonderful childhood for them. Jane worked as a payroll clerk at a large Dubuque manufacturer until marrying Coast Guardsman Joe. Joe grew up in Minnesota, he was stationed on the Mississippi when he courted Jane. They started a family in Aurora, Illinois. A job change brought them to Morton in 1968 where they settled and made their life.
Jane enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. She enriched the lives of her sons, grandkids, friends, and extended family. She liked to cook and devoted much of her life to providing for her three boys. Prior to and after retirement, Jane and Joe traveled and enjoyed their wooded hillside of the East Dubuque family cabin. In recent years, Jane enjoyed flowers, walks on sunny days, ham sandwiches, sweet tea, word puzzles, music of the 40's and 50's, car rides, and TV sports – especially the Chicago Cubs and Utah Jazz.
Jane began having memory issues and personality changes about 20 years ago. She was one of the lucky few who seem to have a positive response to the various Alzheimer's and dementia medications. She lost short-term memory but was able to retrieve details from years long past. It was uncanny how she could still do word puzzles and beat most anyone at cribbage and euchre.
Much acknowledgement and gratitude go to the selfless love and excellent care of Jane's Number-One son, Joe, who kept her comfortable for many years. Likewise, many thanks to Runner-up Son Jeff for the remarkable care and love he provided and to her son John.
