August 24, 1944 – June 13, 2021

Carol Ann Abbott, 76, of Mitchell, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at her residence. She was born August 24, 1944, in Lawrence County to Robert and Catherine (Hopkins) Ratliff. She married Harold "Jim" Abbott on Dec. 15, 1967, and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2018.

Carol was a graduate of Mitchell High School, class of 1962. She retired from the Mitchell Community School System and had previously worked at Travelers Radio and TV Corp. and Sarkes Tarzian in Bloomington. She was of the Christian faith.

Surviving to cherish Carol's memory are her sister, Ginny (Jim) Eggers; niece, Jayma (Marvin) Jones, whom Carol treated as her own daughter; brother-in-law, Steve (Carolyn) Abbott; and special cousins, Kenny and Peggy Ratliff and Eric and Thairon Ratliff and families.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Funeral services for Carol will be Friday, June 18, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Val Foughty-Killion officiating. Entombment will be at Cresthaven Chapel of Peace. Visitation will also be Friday at Ferguson-Lee Chapel from 11:00 a.m until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the White River Humane Society.
