June Telaar Westville, N.J. June Telaar (nee Moehring) age 100 years of Westville died peacefully Wednesday December 25, 2019 in Samaritan Hospice, Voorhees. Mrs. Telaar was born in Wilmington, Delaware and raised in Paulsboro where she was a 1937 graduate of Paulsboro High School. During her college years at Glassboro State Teachers College she began working in the Gimbels Philadelphia book department. Upon graduation in 1941 she began her teaching career. From 1946-1948 she worked summers for the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Line in Atlantic City. During World War II she was active in the USO in Billingsport. June met her husband, Johny, and married in 1953; raising their family in Westville. Throughout her many years, she continued pursuing her passions. A fiercely independent woman, Mrs. Telaar loved all modes of travel, touring many places near and far, by ship, train and car. She sang in choirs at her churches and with church groups abroad. She was most famously known for knitting Christmas stockings for friends and family, a hobby she began doing in her twenties and at the age of one hundred was still working on two new ones! Additionally, she knit seamen's hats to be sent overseas as well as newborn baby layettes for mothers in Woodbury. She loved dancing, trains, musical shows, Heisey glass, local history, especially Dupont's Hagley Museum and Ironworks, where her father had worked. An avid reader, she collected books, often attracted by their illustrations. She was especially fond of children's book illustrators, the Wyeths, Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell and Jan Brett. In her later years her favorite pastime was reading to children in Billingsport. She is survived by her children, Jay and Fran Hitchens of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Chris and Colette Telaar of Mullica Hill, Thomas and Nicole Telaar of Alstead, New Hampshire, Margaret and Pat Brennan of Haddonfield; her grandchildren, Annie, Jennifer, Arty, Morgan, Collin and Megan; and her great- grandchildren, Van, Alex and Carter. Mrs. Telaar was predeceased by her husband, Johny Telaar (d. 1987), her parents, John and Beatrice Moehring, and her brothers, Jack and Charles Moehring. Friends are welcome to join the family for remembrances, to be held from 11 - 12:30 PM Friday January 3, 2020 in the McBride - Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro. A private inurnment will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in June's memory to UNICEF USA, 125 Maiden Ln., NY, NY 10038. Memories can be shared at www.mcbridefoleyfh.com.
