Apperson, according to a descendent, was a Captain in the Confederate army and is the one, after finding Union troops had pillaged and looted his home, led some Autauga Co Rangers or Home Guard across country and and ambushed the Union troopers who had done it. They were supposedly on their way back to Selma, Al. to rejoin their unit under the command of Gen. James H. Wilson. The story relates that all the Yankee pillagers were killed in or near Burnsville, Dallas Co., Al."
