Funeral Service for A.J. "Bully" Barnes, 91 of Pocola, Oklahoma will be at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Rock Island Community Free Will Baptist Church in Rock Island, Oklahoma with Pastor Brad Kuhl officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro, Oklahoma.
He was born on July 28, 1929 in Cameron, Oklahoma to Mae (Powell) Barnes and Tom Barnes and passed away on June 18, 2021 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was married to Donna (Decker) Barnes on May 16, 1953 in Yuma, Arizona. A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dude Barnes, Willie Barnes; sisters, Ethel Pickering, Effie Minks, and Liza Lowery. Bully was a jokester, always telling jokes and often making the jokes up himself. He showed everyone how to sharpen knives, tie hooks, and probably if truth be told dip snuff. Bully enjoyed to garden, fish and paint. Bully told everyone they were his "favorite" and had a way of making everyone feel special and loved.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Barnes of the home; fur babies, Scotty and Susie; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, special friends, and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Lowery, Shane Lowery, Danny Farmer, Aaron Hale, David Minks, II and Brent Lowery. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews and great nephews.
Viewing will be Monday 12:00pm - 7:00pm at Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Pocola and the family will greet friends from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
