Funeral services for Mrs. Alverda Ware Allen, wife of James P. Allen, were held from her husband's residence, 209 East Commerce street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. Charles D. Whitton, pastor of Central M.E. Church. Mrs. Allen was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James O. Ware, who lived on Cedar street for many years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ware died in 1911 only ten weeks apart. Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband and one son, Everett Allen, who with his wife lives in Brooklyn, and a sister, Mrs. Ida T. Ware, well-known former school teacher, who lives on Cedar street. Mrs. Allen was a woman well thought of by her many friends, a fine Christian character and a home-loving woman, much interested in her family. She had not been well for some time, but was not thought in a serious condition. A hypodermic was given her to rest and the family, watching her, thought she was resting, but were shocked to learn she had quietly passed away.
Mr. Allen formerly was employed at the Ferracute, but moved to West Chester, Pa., where he was employed for 28 years. About four years ago, he returned and came to his home town to live and he and Mrs. Allen had lived quietly at the East Commerce street address.
There were beautiful floral pieces from relatives and friends. The pall-bearers were members of Evening Star Lodge, F. & A.M.
