Born Dionysia M Pazakis on July 6, 1933, to Michael and Mary Pazakis, in Hyannis, MA, she graduated Barnstable High School, Barnstable, MA in 1951 and Emerson College, Boston, MA in 1955.
Educated as a speech therapist and then, certified as an educator, she taught English and related subjects first at Caribou Junior High School and then at Caribou High School. In the 1980's she owned and operated multiple Diet Center franchises with locations southeast of Boston and on Cape Cod and later a toy & teachers' supply store with her daughter Leslie in California.
Best-known as Doanie, Dione and Dee by family and friends, she reveled in lively intellectual discussions on various topics but particularly loved the exploration of religion and politics. Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice she enjoyed singing and playing the piano and passed her love of music to her children.
Survived by her sons Richard D. Solman of Caribou, ME, Gregory S. Solman of Lake Gregory, CA, and daughter Leslie D. Chiaverini and her husband John of Belmont, CA, children born of her first marriage to Richard N. Solman of Caribou, ME; grandson, Michael C. Chiaverini of West Hollywood, CA; siblings Albert Pazakis, Esther (Pazakis) Stochetti, Rossetto Pazakis and James Pazakis all of Cape Cod; and many beloved nieces, nephews and in laws. She was predeceased by her second husband, Paul T. McCarthy, sister Ann (Pazakis) Bush and brother, Michael Pazakis, Jr.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church, Brewster, MA on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:00 am, immediately followed by internment at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis, MA.
