She was a daughter of John Malcolm Stewart and Mary Campbell. She married Thomas Francis McGuigan 22 SEP 1890 at Holy Rosary in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

OBITUARY: Province 27 May 1935. Mrs. T.F. McGuigan Widow of First City Clerk Dies, in South-News of the death of Mrs. Thomas F. McGuigan, widow of the first city clerk of Vancouver, in Los Angeles on Saturday, has been received by her nephew, W.J. McGuigan, manager of the City Market. Mrs. McGuigan was the daughter of John Stewart, the first chief of police of Vancouver. She came to Vancouver fifty years ago-before the fire-and her wedding to Mr. McGuigan was one of the events of the early days of Vancouver. Her husband started his official duties as city clerk at the first meeting of the first City Council, held in the constable's sitting-room at the old Courthouse on Water Street. He afterward served the city as city clerk until 1905, when he retired. Mrs. McGuigan's father, Chief Stewart, was a constable of the little village of Granville, or "Gastown" and on the incorporation of the city of Vancouver was appointed as first chief of police, with a force of three constables. One of them V.W. Haywood, still survives. Mrs. McGuigan is survivied by a son and a daughter. Stewart McGuigan of Auckland, NZ and Mrs. Frances Dixon of Los Angeles, also a sister, Mrs. John Fife of Los Angeles. She was aged 63.
