Nancy's warm smile, generous spirit and open arms will be missed by many. Her life was marked by the instructions of Jesus to, "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul and spirit, and love thy neighbor as thyself." Matt. 22:37. Nancy tirelessly extended her love, kindness, and encouragement to others, even to her last days.
From hosting Backyard Bible Clubs, Pioneer Girls, church events, missionaries, to hosting parties and celebrations, Nancy created a home that was a hub for genuine care and love for others. She was quick to smile and laugh, to look for the best in others and to volunteer to help in any way that was needed. She cooked for everyone she knew, left a trail of letters, never forgetting anyone's birthday or anniversary and prayed faithfully for her family and friends daily.
Our mom often said that she was proud of all our accomplishments, but far more important to her was that we, her children, would come to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior. We echo the same sentiment back to her. Mom's accomplishments are too great to count, but it is her love of the Lord, her example of drawing daily from God's Word, power and promises, and her servant's heart that has most powerfully marked our memories of her. She loved so well because she loved the Lord so much.
She leaves behind the legacy of a mission accomplished with all her family knowing and loving the Lord: her husband: Richard Byrom Scott; her children: Susan Scott Moore, Linda Scott Cobb (Hammond) and Virginia Scott Sloan ( Ken); her grandchildren: Emily Moore( Doug Curtis) Hammond Cobb IV ( Candace), William Cobb, Richard Cobb, Katherine Sloan (Brian Bieschke), Scott Sloan (Madison) and Mary-Carolyn Sloan; great grandchildren: Alison Cobb, Henry Cobb, and Charlie Sloan.
We will miss her greatly, cherishing sweet memories of summers on the beach jumping waves and searching for sea shells, celebrating Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, with gingerbread house-making contests, bird watching from her kitchen windows, her irresistible Mississippi mud brownies, and her love of all creatures great and small,- especially birds and cats. We are looking forward to the day when we will all see her again in heaven.
On Saturday, October 17, we will participate in a family graveside service. Immediately following at 11 am, also at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, we will hold a celebration service of Nancy's life for friends and family, with a visitation to follow.
