He was at a friend's party trying to decide which girl he wanted to meet when Evelyn Ambert climbed through a window! "I choose THAT one" he said, and the rest is history.
They married in January of 1946. Five kids,(Nancy Anne,Pamela Ellen,Gregory Keith,Laurie Marie and Douglas Joseph ----and fifty some odd years later, they had enjoyed a relationship that "best friends" would envy.
He worked hard and provided his family with a happy household while owning and running a hardware store business for the most part of his employment life prior to working in sales for private industry.
George had converted from the Methodist religion to Catholicism and became very active in St. Clare's, the local Catholic Church, with the Knights of Columbus, the C.Y.O and was the President of the Holy Name Society.
When he and his wife Evelyn retired to their beloved summer home in Sound Beach in Suffolk County on Long Island, he continued his involvement with the community there becoming president of the Sound Beach Property Owner's Association and the Senior Citizen's Club.
He was "grandpa" to 10 grandchildren and he was loved and respected by them, his children, and a whole town of devoted neighbors and friends.
