Trooper Brian Linn was killed in an automobile accident while responding to assist in a foot pursuit in Kearneysville. His vehicle went out of control and struck a utility pole.

He was transported to Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Trooper Linn had served with the agency for 2 years and was assigned to the Charles Town Detachment. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Trooper Brian William Linn, age 25 years, a former resident of Huntington and more recently a resident of Martinsburg, departed this life early Saturday morning, Nov. 3, 2007, at the Winchester Medical Center at Winchester, Va., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while on duty.

He was born Thursday, April 22, 1982, at Elkins, a son of Thomas Linn and Mary Lynch Snelson, who survive at Elkins.

On July 18, 2006, at Jefferson County, he was married to the former Melissa Ann Miller, who survives in Martinsburg. Also surviving are two daughters, Emily "Paige," age 9, and Madeline Ann, age 2, both at home; his stepmother, Vicki Linn, of Elkins; his stepfather, Arnold Snelson, of Elkins; two

brothers, Marty Linn and Aaron Linn and wife Vicky, all of Elkins; two stepsisters, Mandi Foster, of Elkins, and Holly Baughman and husband Chris, of San Diego; two stepbrothers, Michael Foster of Elkins, and Larry Snelson, of Richmond, Va.; paternal grandmother, Madeline Linn Phillips, of Elkins; mother-in-law, Jacqueline Miller, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio; father-in- law, James Miller, of Wellington, Fla.; brother-in-law, James Andrew Miller, of Ashland, Ky.; one niece, Hailee Linn, and two nephews, Jacob and Trevor Linn, all of Elkins, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving are his coworkers from Troop 2 of the West Virginia State Police, Troopers Keith Martin, Mike Dickerson, Martin Glende, Brock Chandler, Joe Bush, Craig Morton, Derek Underwood, Dave Heil, Jonathan Moon, Janette Schuessler, Keith Castle, Jonathan Meeks, Jeremy Phillips and Ed Anderson.

Preceding him in death are his paternal grandfather, Thad Linn, maternal grandparents, Bob and Jean Lynch, and paternal step grandfather, Robert G. Phillips.

Brian was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 2000, where he was a member of the football team. He attended West Virginia University and received an associate's degree in police science from Marshall University.

He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of the 229th Engineering Unit at Camp Dawson and was deployed to Camp Doha, Kuwait as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He then transferred to the A Battery 1/201st Field Artillery, and was deployed to Scania, Iraq, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged on March 24, 2007. He enlisted as a member of the 55th Cadet Class of the West Virginia State Police on Sept. 26, 2005, and graduated on April 21, 2006, when he was assigned to the Charles Town Detachment. He was an avid outdoorsman.

The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church at Elkins from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.Wednesday. On Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, Trooper Linn will be moved to the West Virginia Army National Guard Armory, where the liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Father Donald X. Higgs will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery in Cravensdale where full military rites will be accorded by the West Virginia State Police and the West Virginia Army National Guard. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia,
