John Harm, "Johnnie Dodge," Cirks, age 74, of Ada, MN, passed away peacefully, in the company of his brothers Dave and Ray, on Sunday June 27, 2021, from a lengthy illness.
John was born on December 18,1946 in Ada. He was the 4th child of Harold Leo and Gertrude Elizabeth (Kneip) Cirks. John spent his formative years growing up in Lockhart. This is where his Hobby started, with model cars and progressed to detailed airplanes, and his love of vehicles.
He attended the Elementary School in Ada, Lockhart School and Ada High School. John worked on farms in the Beltrami area after he finished high school. He enlisted in the Army National Guard, did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, the rest of his enlistment, at the Hillsboro Armory ND, until his Honorable Discharge. During his enlistment he worked at several Ada Business honing his skills in the automotive industry. Allen Cirks recruited some of his cousins, which John was one of, to work for Crawford Electrical, constructing highline poles throughout the Midwest. When he returned to the Ada area, he returned to his passion of cars, again working in local garages honing his skills in the different areas of restoration: painting, body straightening, mechanical and interiors. John also worked for Olaf Anderson Construction Company in Fargo, for several years. Then moved to Everett, Washington and found a job with a sub-contractor that worked with airline companies. There he focused on the hydraulics and fiberglass fabrication of parts, for the different areas on airplanes. When he returned to the Ada area, he continued working on farms doing a variety of jobs, until his health started to decline at which time he retired. Spending full time on his hobby of restoring and showing his unique collection of vehicles.
John is survived by his sibling: Carolyn Lesmeister, Ada, Minnesota; James (Ardella)Cirks, Albuquerque, New Mexico; David Cirks, Arizona; Richard (Mary)Cirks, Mount Vernon, Texas; Delores (Art)Welle, Hitterdal, Minnesota; Raymond Cirks, Jamul, California; Connie (Mike)Boe, Fargo, North Dakota; and Thomas (Rae)Cirks, Fargo, North Dakota.
