Alison Gay Norville McKim died on June 24, 2021 after a battle with colo-rectal cancer with her beloved husband Jack McKim at her side. She was a resident of Chalk Point since 1955. Alison was born in Washington, DC on September 16, 1950 to the late William and Grace Gay.
Alison is survived by the best caregiver in the world, husband John (Jack) McKim, a brother William "Bill" Gay, Jr. and his wife Robin and her nephew Brendan.
A teacher in the Anne Arundel county school system for 30 years , she had the pleasure of teaching two generations of children and students. Her school teaching included Annapolis Junior High, Central Middle, Southern Middle and Southern High School; 2000-2001 9th grade teacher of the year at Southern High School. She was a freelance writer for the Bay Weekly and World Karting (Go Karts) as well as many newsletters and bulletins for the Galesville United Methodist Church. A true lover of reading and writing, Alison was the Southern High School Literary editor as well as the St. Mary's College of Maryland.
A long-time member of Galesville United Methodist Church where she joined the choir at age 12, she sang with the choir at their appearance at Carnegie Hall. An avid traveler, she traveled all over the United States by car, motorhome and boats, including traveling from Florida to Alaska in the motorhome. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and gardening and her beloved cats.
Relatives and friends may call at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A., 905 Galesville Road, Galesville, MD 20765 on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. Funeral service will take place at the Galesville United Methodist Church, 4825 Church Ln, Galesville, MD 20765 on Thursday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Woodfield Cemetery. A reception following the interment will take place at the Galesville Memorial Hall, 952 Main St., Galesville, MD 20765. Contributions if desired may be made to Galesville United Methodist Church.
