Fred (Red) Alger passed away on February 11, 2004. He was born June 13, 1913, in Goodwell Township to Sidney and Viola (Clary) Alger. On February 19, 1938, he married Margaret Westover and she preceded him in death on December 22, 1992.
Before moving to Harlingen, TX in 1986, Fred had lived in Fruitport for 40 years, where he had served as a fireman and a village council member. He also was active in the Lions Club and the Congregational Church. As a young man, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He retired from supervision at Continental Motors after 33 years of service.
Fred is survived by his wife, Wilma Greene, and 5 children; David (Michelle) of Benton Harbor, Hugh (Kathy) of Washington, IL, Sue Aurich of Fort Wayne, Jerald (Lynda) of Fruitport, and Melissa (Jim) Carden of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by 2 sisters; Rosella (Avery) Russell, Geneva Nye, and one brother Floyd (Phyllis) Alger. His brother Willard and sisters Mildred King and Frances Sova preceded him in death.
