PLEASANT VIEW-John Thomas Caine V returned to his Heavenly Father early Monday morning, Nov. 12, 2007 at the Ogden Regional Medical Center in Ogden, Utah after a year long battle with Myasthenia Gravis, a Nerve Disorder. John was born on May 17, 1948, to John T. and Afton Stratford Caine IV in Ogden, Utah, the first of three children. After graduating from Ogden High School in 1966, John went on to receive his BS in Political Science from Utah State University and his Jurist Doctorate from the University of Utah.

He married Deanna Williams on Aug. 20, 1970 and they were later divorced. They had two children Amy and Michael who both died shortly after birth. John married the love of this life, Sally Robinett, on April 25, 1975 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Together they had five children and made their home in Pleasant View, Utah. He was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings, his favorite being the ward chorister. He always said his ward members were his Tabernacle Choir. He was a family man through and through and was happiest when his children and grandchildren were gathered together, whether it be in the mountains on a ATV, on a family trip somewhere or just hanging out laughing, playing games at his home. John loved music and the arts.

He loved to perform as an actor and was famous in his little town of Pleasant View for his role as Tevea in Fiddler on the Roof. John started his law practice Richards, Caine and Richards with Maurice Richards, Reed Richards and Daryl Renstrom and ended his practice in the firm Richards, Caine, Allen and Pace with Randy Richards, Bernie Allen, Jon Pace, and Dee Smith which has become one of the most prestigious and well known law firms in northern Utah. He was one of the most brilliant criminal defense trial attorneys in the state and worked on many high profile cases. He served as President of the Weber County Bar Association and was highly respected and admired by many of his colleagues in the legal profession. He will be missed in courtrooms throughout Utah. John was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. He served as chairman of the Weber County Democratic Party from 1982-1984 and was a delegate to the national democratic convention in San Francisco in 1984. One of John's passions was being a part of the political world and loved his time spent with this fellow Utah democrats.

John is survived by his Love Sally, his children, Jenni (Tom) Sneddon, Brigham City; Johnny (Tiffany) Caine, Morgan; Nic (Amanda) Caine, Clearfield; Ashlee (Jake) Ito, Harrisville; and Logan Caine. His mother, Afton Caine, Ogden; sister, Julie (Dan) Maynard, Chandler, Ariz; brother, Paul (Barbara) Caine, Hoytsville; his mother-in-law, Carol Robinett; many other in-laws, nieces and nephews. The three lights of his life were his grandchildren Kamrie, Hannah and Carsten who will miss him very much. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, John T. Caine IV; his father-in-law, George Edward Robinett, his two children, Amy and Michael; a nephew, Darrin Pierson. We as a family would like to thank the Ogden Regional's ICU nursing staff for their love and kindness to Dad and our family. We would also like to thank Dr. Harry Senekjian, Dr. Greg Almony, Dr. Jahan Imani, Dr. Gil Caillouet, and Dr. Gary Goucher for their care of Dad throughout this last year of his life.

John Caine was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and true friend, who took care of everyone around him. He was a larger than life man with a presence you couldn't miss and though his life was cut short, he left an impact on everyone who knew him. We all look forward to being with you again Dad, but in the meantime, the defense rests.
