Gootee
CAMERON — Glenn Ervin Gootee, 86, of Cameron died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 in a Cameron nursing facility. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Monica's Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Chamberlain and Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Monica's Mausoleum. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, with a wake beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Gootee was born June 20, 1921 in Okmulgee, OK to Walter and Marguerite (Schick) Gootee. His family moved to Corpus Christi in 1938 where he graduated high school. He began working for the postal service and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps after Pearl Harbor. He was trained as an air traffic controller and stationed at Spence Field in Moultrie, GA. He married Martha Tilghman in 1942 and they remained in Georgia until after the war.
They returned to Corpus Christi where he worked for the postal service until 1976 and retired there as a station superintendent. He and his wife and their youngest son, Bruce, moved to Cameron in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003 and his oldest brother Merton.
Survivors include two sons, Bill (Ervin) Gootee of Gonzales and Lt. Col. Bruce Gootee of Bossier City, LA; two daughters, Sandra Brents and husband Jimmy of Spring and Joyce Montgomery and husband Melvin of Plano; sister, Carole Crider of New Braunfels; brother, Dr. Hubert Gootee of San Antonio; six grandchildren.
