Lifelong roper and rancher. Peter Baldwin was born into a Hawaii ranching family and in time led Haleakala Ranch, the company founded by his great-grandfather Henry Perrine Baldwin. In his long life he was involved in dairy production as well as modern cattle-raising. He graduated from Punahou School and later Cornell University. He also played polo in England in his younger days, including with Prince Philip. His love for the land ran deep, and one of his later business endeavors involved soft-adventure activities on the land encompassed by Piiholo Ranch in upcountry Maui. Under his guidance, Haleakala Ranch expanded natural conservation efforts by dedicating 5,000 acres of native forest watershed into perpetual conservation easement, and it joined the East Maui Watershed Partnership. He also was inducted into the Paniolo Hall of Fame in 2007. He was noted for his community involvement, including helping to establish Maui's youth soccer league.
