Merlene Cobb Dies In Oolitic
Merlene Cobb, 62, 405 Maple street, Oolitic, died Thursday at 2 p.m. at her residence. She had been ill for a period of three years.
Mrs. Cobb was born March 16, 1894, to Adam and Nora Pender Blackwell. She was married to Samuel Cobb on October 21, 1911, and he preceded her in death August 24, 1952.
She was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Walter Cobb, of Oolitic; three daughters, Mrs. Wayne Lewis, Mrs. Thomas Stigall, and Mrs. John Tirey, all of Oolitic; one sister, Mrs. Mae Jones, Bedford; one brother, Will Blackwell, East Oolitic; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, one stepson, Carl Cobb, Bloomfield, and 3 step-grand-children. One son, James E. Cobb, was killed in World War II.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Chapel, Day and Carter Mortuary with Rev. Robert E. Gaultney officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memorial Park.
Friends may call at any time at Day and Carter Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements.
