Arthur Charles Abel, son of John Sherman and Nellie May Heitman Abel, was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Anderson, IN. He departed this life Tues., Oct. 1, 2002, in his home, near Norwood, MO., at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 24 days.
On Nov. 25, 1945, he was united in marriage to Betty Caroline Hook, and to this union 2 daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Albert and Chester Abel; and a sister, Mary Abel.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty, of the home; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and John Wall, of East Peoria, IL, and Martha and Keith Jones, of Anderson, IN; 2 grandsons, Jason and John Wall, both of East Peoria, IL; 2 brothers, Tom and Bob Abel, both of Anderson, IN; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Anderson, IN and lived all of his childhood there. He served his country faithfully in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army during World War II. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Anderson, IN, where he met and married Betty. They continued to make their home in Anderson and lovingly raised their daughters. Arthur was employed by Anaconda Wire and Cable Company in Anderson, and then worked as a carpenter for Best Lock Company in Indianapolis for several years. In 1987, he and Betty moved to the Norwood, MO community.
Arthur made his profession of faith in Christ and was baptized in 1972 in Muncie, IN, under the ministry of Rev. Lillard Davis and was a member of the Jesus Name Free Pentecostal Church. He remained faithful until God called him home. He worked hard last year on building their new church and supported its members financially and with kind words and encouragement.
In his spare time he enjoyed doing woodworking projects and building things. He loved being outdoors and liked planting and working in his garden. His family was very important to him and he was especially devoted to his wife.
Arthur was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Services were held October 5, 2002 at 11:00a.m. in the Jesus Free Name Pentecostal Church. Burial followed in the Davis Cemetery, west of Hartville. Visitation was from 7:00-8:30, Friday, October 4, 2002 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Missouri.
