William E Earls was born on August 9, 1886 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, the son of Pleasant Green Earls (1840–1911) and Elizabeth J "Lizzie" (Gray) Earls (1845–1919).

He lived in Nashville most of his life and was married in 1910 to Verna Elizer.

Working for the meter department of Nashville City Water Works and living at 1802 Nassau Street, William was 71 years old and married when he died on August 7, 1958 of chronic myocarditis at Nashville General Hospital.

Survivors included daughter Mrs Elizabeth Earls Harris, sister Mrs Mary McNabb, brother Robert Earls and granddaughter Janice Lee Harris, all in Nashville.

Funeral Services were held on August 9th at Buena Vista Funeral Home, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
