"Newark - John P. Hoeltzel died at his home at Batavia, Thursday night at 10:30 o'clock. Mr. Hoeltzel was born at South Sodus on June 24, 1861, moving to Batavia about twenty-six years ago. He had been employed at the First National Bank for the past twenty-three years, for the past eleven being the assistant cashier. Mr. Hoeltzel was a member of the Presbyterian church and of the Chamber of Commerce, an ex-commander of Sons of Veterans. In 1896 he was married to Mrs. Estella Noyes Parker, who survives him, together with two sisters, Mrs. Rae Bryant and Mrs. Rosa Hyde in Newark. Before going to Batavia he was engaged in the grocery business in Newark. He was also a clerk in the Bank of Peirson and Perkins and was highly regarded in the this town. His funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from his late home at 3 o'clock, and the burial was at Batavia." (Aug. 23, 1917, The Newark Courier, NY)
