Peter "The Crane" Caron, 76, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, after a wonderful life.

He was the son of the late Julia (O'Brien) Caron and Roland Caron and brother of the late Joseph F. Caron. He was a charter member of the now defunct Gypsy Jokers motorcycle club and a current member of the Four Seasons Club.

Born and raised in New Bedford, Peter graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School - Automotive Shop 1962. For a time he lived in Plymouth, MA and was the owner of Phoenix Iron Works, in Wareham, MA. Throughout his life, Peter had many interests. He was a motorcycle and automobile enthusiast and enjoyed the outdoors, white water kayaking and camping.

Peter was a smart dresser and always had the appropriate hat. He was an avid reader of newspapers and true crime books. Later in life, he found a new interest in art museums and galleries and looked forward to gardening and tending to his prized tomato plants. Always the bargain hunter, Peter enjoyed visiting yard sales and flea markets with his companion Jane and his daughter Lisa.

Peter had a real love of music and attended many concerts, including Woodstock in 1969. People knew The Crane for his smile, distinctive laugh and a jokester's sense of humor. He had a real love of animals, especially his cat, Mr. Downtown.

Peter is survived by his companion Jane M. Swiszcz of New Bedford, his daughter and son in-law Lisa and Joseph Hurley of Webster, NH and his nephews Mark, Michael and Peter Caron of New York State and special friends.

According to his wishes, The Crane declined funeral and memorial services. He requested that all remember him the way he was in life.
