The remains of Bert McCall, whose sudden death at Missoula, Montana, was mentioned last week, arrived in Boone Friday night, accompanied by his father, C. J. McCall, and were at once taken to the family home in Coal Valley.
The funeral services were held from the home of at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The spacious home and yards were filled to overflowing by sorrowing relatives and friends of the young man and of the family. The services were conducted by the Rev A. L. Golden of the Marion Street M.E. church.
The remains were followed to their last resting place in the Coal Valley cemetery near the home by one of the largest funeral corteges ever seen in Boone County. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The music was by the choir of the Marion Street church and the pall bearers were all young friends of the deceased: Walter and Robert Bricker, Charles and Matt Selzer, Albert Yeaman and Irvin Carlson.
Albert Lea McCall was born in Boone county December 21, 1886, and died at Missoula, Montana, March 28, 1910, after only a few days illness with spotted fever, aged 23 years 3 months and 7 days. After completing his education in the public schools he engaged in farming with his father on the old home place and was always an energetic and industrious young man of noble character. Last July he left for Seattle to attend the exposition, then spent several months visiting in the west and was on his return home, when at Missoula he was seized with the fatal illness, which lasted just seven days. His father was sent for and went at once to his bedside. Three trained nurses and the best physicians obtainable did everything possible to save his life, but to no avail. He was conscious to the last, realized that death was near, calmly arrange his personal affairs and passed peacefully away.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. McCall, Alonzo C. McCall of Los Angeles, who [came] for the funeral, Nellie L., Marlon, Grover, Harold, Genevieve, Helen and Donald at home. He was popular with all who knew him and [a] host of admiring friends extend to the stricken family sincere sympathy in their sudden and sad bereavement.
