Cashner Funeral Home

Betty Frew Smith passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 10, 2021 at the age of 103 years young. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Iola, Kansas on May 10, 1918 to Laura Cooper Frew and James Pryde Frew. Her family moved frequently but some of her favorite places to live included Hudson, New York, Greencastle, Indiana and Houston, Texas. She graduated from Milby High School in Houston in 1934. At age 20, she then graduated from Sophie Newcomb/Tulane College in 1938 with a B.S. in Mathematics. It was very rare for women to receive a degree in mathematics during this time so this was an impressive achievement. Betty was also a member of Tri Kappa Sorority for many years, enjoying annual New Year's Eve dances, parties and luncheons.

In 1947, she married her true love, Everett E. Smith. Betty and Everett lived in Houston for 40 years as they raised their two children and were members of The Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. In 1987, they chased their dream to live in the beautiful community of Walden on Lake Conroe. They loved their years at Walden and made many new friends. They were active members of The Walden Community Church and Betty was also a member of the Walden Ladies Association. During her lifetime, she enjoyed working as a bookkeeper in the family business, singing in the choir at both churches, Bible study, playing bridge in several bridge clubs, water aerobics and spending time with her family. Betty is survived by her daughter, Wanda Walker and husband, Randy; her daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; her granddaughter, Taryn Ziehm and husband Aaron, and their children Alli, Jake and Carly; grandson, Chris Walker and wife Lela; granddaughter, Trudy Smith-Randall and husband, Barry, and their children Jocelyn, Zaylee and Lucas. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and best friend of 55 years and her beloved son, Eddie. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandma, gigi and friend to everyone. Above all, she was a prayer warrior, faithful servant and loved Jesus will all of her heart.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at The United Methodist Church of Conroe beginning at 10:00am. The graveside service will be on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 11:00am in Forest Park Lawndale, Houston, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Walden Community Church (12400 Walden Rd, Montgomery, TX 77356) or Methodist Day School (4308 W Davis St, Conroe, TX 77304)
