Born in New Jersey about 1784. We don't know his date of death. Hartness Clawson and Sarah Sickels had three sons (John, James and William H. Clawson now DNA proven through thrulines and one daughter Phebe Clawson (DNA proven thru Thrulines) who married a McWilliams.
Sometimes people put down in ancestry Hercules Hartness Clawson but his name is Hartness as proven by official documents (#1 a land deed and #2 his son John's death certificate which make it clear his name was Hartness). Documents on this man make it hard to pin down exactly where he lived in New Jersey (deed work is still being conducted). Please if you have information about him please let me know so we can share it here. I do have a deed I found for him where he was given land by his wife's father. His father in-law in this deed names him as "Hartness Clawson" and his being the wife of Sarah Sickels his daughter. He also shows up on his son John's death certificate where his name is spelled "Hartness". He can be found on his daughter's Phebe's death certificate where the name is badly misspelled "H....Kles". This is where I am afraid the name Hercules came from which is a total guess because it is not spelled this way on his daughters death certificate. The name really can't be read properly off of Phebe Clawson McWilliam's Death Certificate clearly but her father's name is Hartness. Please let me know if you have found any other mention of this man's name or any other proof of additional children or where he lived. Thanks - Steve Howell
I would be especially interested in knowing about Truelines that show other children branching down from Hartness.
