Mary "Katie" Mahoney died on November 15, 2020 of natural causes at age 90.

Katie was born in St Louis, MO on May 8, 1930. After a tornado in 1934 destroyed her father's businesses in Kansas, her family moved to Denver, Colorado. There she formed lifelong friendships at Loretto Heights College, attending reunions well into her 80's. She met Pat during a Catholic Church hay ride, and married him on July 12, 1952 at St John the Evangelist Church, Denver. As Pat continued his medical training, they moved from Colorado to California and back again, before settling in Seattle in 1959. She devoted herself to raising 7 children, several cats and dogs. She shared her love of reading and being outdoors with her children; taking the family on many hikes and camping trips in the big blue tent. Katie organized chore charts, double checked homework, typed school reports, baked over a 100 birthday cheesecakes, supervised back-to-school and Easter shopping trips, transported us to the library and to swimming lessons and created many meals out of hamburger. While raising the family, she learned how to swim at age 40. She created St Bridget's Church library. Katie returned to school for a second college degree at 50 to become an occupational therapist, encouraging patients for 10 years at the Seattle Veteran's Hospital. Upon retirement, her involvement at St. Bridget's increased. She became one of the founders of St Bridget's Seattle Children's chaplain program to support the families of ill children. She transformed the backyard; creating an extensive perennial garden with each plant labeled with its scientific name. Throughout her adult life she enjoyed international travel, holiday decorating- especially Halloween, church outreach, and family celebrations. Her sunny disposition and entertaining imagination grew as her mind slipped away in the last few years.

She will be profoundly missed by her brother Frank, 7 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings: Jack, Barbara, Genie, and Pete. She now rests in the loving arms of her recently deceased spouse, Pat.
